I found this book very interesting and motivating to read. If you’ve recently started learning to play the piano for instance and feel stuck with your limited abilities, reading this book will provide you with the motivation and the toolset to push past your limits. In a slightly more direct way, this book contains lots of references and anecdotes that would be particularly interesting to musicians, chess players, or people into sports. There is something very freeing about the idea that there are no real limits to the things you can learn or do once you can apply deliberate practice to that thing. That is, anyone who is looking to always improve themselves, even past the point of what they initially thought possible. I would recommend this book to anyone with a growth mindset. I really enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it to others. The idea that everyone can improve with deliberate practice no matter how old you are is a really great message.īy focusing on deliberate practice to build up your mental models you can grow far beyond a level that is simply “good enough”. Reading Peak was an extremely motivational experience for me.

But is she? Sometimes, only the direst need can teach us our own depths, and Sarai, the muse of nightmares, has not yet discovered what she’s capable of.Īs humans and godspawn reel in the aftermath of the citadel’s near fall, a new foe shatters their fragile hopes, and the mysteries of the Mesarthim are resurrected: Where did the gods come from, and why? What was done with the thousands of children born in the citadel nursery? And most important of all, as forgotten doors are opened and new worlds revealed: must heroes always slay monsters, or is it possible to save them instead? Lazlo faces an unthinkable choice – save the woman he loves, or everyone else? – while Sarai feels more helpless than ever. One a god, the other a ghost, they struggle to grasp the new boundaries of their selves as dark-minded Minya holds them hostage, intent on vengeance against Weep. In the wake of tragedy, neither Lazlo nor Sarai are who they were before. She believed she knew every horror, and was beyond surprise. Sarai has lived and breathed nightmares since she was six years old. ‘ Muse of Nightmares is a philosophical fantasy adventure, an epic love story, a daring quest that demands to be read and reread and deserves to be remembered forever.’ Katherine Webber It was published in 1974, six years after Tell Me How Long the Train’s Been Gone. This includes his firm belief in love as a remedy for the ills of American society. Baldwin’s style of writing and his particular perspective on social issues might have seemed old-fashioned and out of touch. Black feminists were recognized as a force in their own right. The Black Power Movement dominated the integrationist approaches of figures like Martin Luther King Jr. New activists and social critics came with them, their work perceived as closer to the pulse of time. A new wave of writers and literary styles arrived in the late 60s and 70s. Towards the end of that decade, however, his success slowly waned. James Baldwin was one of the central voices of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Not surprisingly, then, love is also central to my analysis of If Beale Street Could Talk. Love, its absence, and its absolute necessity for us, individually and collectively, is the fundamental theme of James Baldwin’s work. The love and the laughter come from the same place: but not many people go there. I guess it can’t be too often that two people can laugh and make love, too, make love because they are laughing, laugh because they’re making love. Critics also praised his writing style for giving children a fresh and appealing look at any number of otherwise overworked periods of history, and called him one of the best in the writing of easy-reading history books. Critics praised his writing style for making the child's voice authentically his own, and also lauded his attention to detail and historical fact. During the 1970s Monjo published many other works of historical fiction, most written from a child's point of view, in an effort to humanize our forefathers. In 1968 he published his first book for children, Indian Summer, the story of a frontier woman's struggle to save her family. He graduated from Columbia University in 1946 and worked as an editor and later assistant director and vice president and editorial director in Books for Boys and Girls at several major publishing companies. Some are looking for new info while others are completely satisfied with what we already know. Many people in the Aerospace Industry are just as intrigued by these stories as I am. Perhaps that’s what sparked my lifetime interest in the subject of Ufology. I was fortunate to have someone close to me take me to see where it occurred almost every weekend when I was growing up. I grew up near where the Aurora Incident took place. One account in particular is very close to my heart. Then you have the Roswell Incident where there have been eye-witnesses come forward years later and speak of what they saw. Just to name a few right off the top are Ken Arnold and Betty and Barney Hill among many others. Too many people who are completely unconnected have seen things and told about them despite being ridiculed. For anyone who has ever looked up at the night sky in wonderment or looked through a telescope at the moon, stars, and planets then you know there has to be something out there besides just us. I don’t seek out new information as there’s always something to be learned from the info that’s already out there if you’re willing to listen. While it may be true that many stories have been heard and told before, I still always, always find something new and inspiring to love about them. This is one of my favorite subjects and has not only intrigued me but countless others as well. The topic of UFO’s NEVER gets old for me. Meston’s arches, crafted by sign-maker George Dexter, made their debut in 1953 with the first franchised McDonald’s at Phoenix, Arizona. A new roof sign boasted “McDonald’s Famous Hamburgers”. Eight years later the brothers re-launched it with their new assembly line fast-food concept, meaning they could sell burgers at 15 cents, half the price of their competitors. He ran it with sons Richard (‘Dick’) and Maurice (‘Mac’) who, in 1940, moved the stand to San Bernardino. In 1937, Patrick McDonald, who had come to California from New Hampshire the previous decade, opened The Airdrome, an octagonal drive-up hot dog stand outside Monrovia airport, northeast of Los Angeles. But this famous M logo formed of two intersecting golden arches and developed over a number of years came about more by accident than design. Under the sign of these arches, currently on display at more than 30,000 restaurants in 119 countries, 68 million customers a day are served variations on a theme of burgers and fries washed down with Coke and shakes. And yet the world’s most famous arches may well be those – with no claim to high culture, innovative engineering or grand historical narrative – of McDonald’s. Karp was taught that babies scream due to gas pains, so there were two approaches for soothing colic. Everyone has their own ideas of what the best soothing strategies are. Trying to calm a crying baby has long been one of the biggest mysteries of life. As you read, you’ll learn why babies love loud noises and vigorous movements, and how to trigger your baby's calming reflex to become a master at soothing fussy babies. Understanding the basic principles of the fourth trimester is crucial for understanding babies as well as improving their sleep and soothing their senses. Karp believes that the main reason babies cry is that they are born three months too soon, which he calls the missing Fourth Trimester. Karp blends modern science and ancient wisdom to prove that newborns aren’t fully ready for the world in which they are born. Throughout The Happiest Baby on the Block, Dr. Harvey Karp reveals that there IS a remedy for colic. Well, no longer do you need to feel this way. Your poor baby cries and cries and you become frustrated and exhausted. If you’re a new parent, you’ve likely experienced feeling helpless and frazzled as nothing you do seems to soothe your baby. I fell in love with both Prince and Dani. Love Radio is one of those books I started and immediately knew I was going to love. Lawrence helps the Arab chiefs create and channel a painful, violent, and masochistic campaign of guerrilla warfare. To rally the disparate Arab tribes, he preaches a message of absolute liberation and glory, wherein the Arabs might reestablish their dominance in the Middle East, and expunge the light of foreign influence. He then rides into the desert, ostensibly under British direction, to encourage the Arabs to aggressively fight the Turks, and create a diversion from the main efforts of the British regular army. Lawrence, a young archaeologist familiar with Arab-Islamic culture, quietly enters the British army at the outbreak of the First World War. He opens his tale with a clear understanding of context, and a sly smile as to the uncanny nature of the story about to unfold.
